Granducato, the prestigious Italian wine label from Tuscany available in Malta, has clinched a number of important awards that have confirmed the quality and tradition of this long established range of wines.

The Chianti Classico Riserva 2005 has been commended by the Decanter World Wine Awards 2008, while the Chianti Classico San Piero Riserva 2005, Chianti Classico 2006, Chianti Classico Riserva 2005 and Chianti San Piero 2005 all won awards from Gambero Rosso 2009.

In Luca Maroni’s Annuario dei Migliori Vini Italiani for 2009, the Chianti Classico Riserva 2005, Morellino di Scansano 2007, Chianti Classico 2006 and Vernaccia Di San Gimignano have all been included in the “Best Italian Wines”.

“It is always a great pleasure to see wines imported to Malta by P. Cutajar winning awards,” said Clyde Attard, Marketing manager at P. Cutajar and Co. “The Maltese consumer can pick any of these award winning Granducato wines from supermarket stores, or alternatively order them at leading restaurants as the perfect accompaniment to lunch or dinner.”

Granducato means “Grand Duchy of Tuscany” – the state in central Italy that existed from 1569 to 1859, consisting of most of the territory of the current Italian region of Tuscany. The Grand Duchy was initially ruled by the Medici family, until its extinction in 1737.

The name Granducato emphasises the Tuscan traditions of wine making and the rich history both of the region and of the winery itself. The Granducato Cellars have been successfully producing wine for more than 70 years and its geographical location and the human and natural resources at its disposal mean that the wines are both noble and historically famous. The Granducato Cellars are situated in an ideal position exactly half way between Chianti Classico and Chianti DOCG districts in the province of Siena.

During the 1930s Granducato was the biggest winery in Tuscany which was also provided with a railway system whose train wagons entered directly into the winery, to then transport wines throughout Italy and also abroad. Granducato has cellars with a capacity of over five million litres. One million litres are slowly matured in Slavonian oak casks, and this is where the Chianti Classico and Chianti DOCG wines develop the organoleptic characteristics of their year. The Granducato are the result of traditional and patient care of the grapes, loving winemaking and careful storage.

Granducato represents a perfect combination of experience and modern winemaking technology. Winemaking is one of the cultural expressions of the Tuscan people, who have a fine taste and are very proud of their great history but at the same time are open to innovations and progress. Granducato wines are an expression of this vitality. They are quality wines that attract the more expert and demanding buyer, and that celebrate the pleasure of being a fine and modern gourmand.

Through its recent partnership with Casa Vinicola Bersano S.p.A., Granducato has clinched new international markets by taking advantage of the distributive channels and of the oenological consulting service of the Bersano team, and its demand continues to increase.

Granducato wines are available in Malta through the exclusive importation and distribution of P. Cutajar and Co Ltd of Mriehel.
