After a short winter break, Harbour Air’s seaplane is back in operation with regular daily flights from Grand Harbour to Gozo’s Mgarr Harbour.
The current 14-seater Single Otter aircraft, run by Harbour Air (Malta), offers a choice of morning and afternoon flights, the first departing Malta at 10am, the last leaving Gozo at 4.40pm.
Flying at approximately 700 feet above sea level, the flight duration to the sister island is only 10 minutes, during which one gets a bird’s eye view of the Maltese islands. Indeed, a most pleasant and quick way of getting there.
The greenery of Gozo, Comino’s Blue Lagoon, and the fortifications of Valletta and Mdina fortifications are only a few of the breathtaking highlights when taking the 30-minute ‘Scenic Flight’ as the floatplane soars at around 1,200 feet. An experience in itself is the take-off and landing in the sheltered waters of Grand Harbour.
Specially modified bubble windows ensure guaranteed views for every passenger comfortably seated inside the aircraft.
A new added service, scheduled to start in May, offers flights from Malta International Airport to Gozo Harbour by means of an amphibious Twin Otter aircraft seating up to 17 passengers.
Besides serving local requirements, this innovative initiative being undertaken by Harbour Air (Malta) will certainly enhance tourism quality to Gozo, as it gives the opportunity to all international Gozo-bound passengers to hop onto the seaplane shortly after their arrival in Malta, thus saving them precious holiday time. Besides travelling in style, of course.
