Grand Hotel Excelsior Takes CSR a step further

The Grand Hotel Excelsior has further embraced the concept of corporate social responsibility by widening the role of its ‘Aid the Community Committee’, headed by Human Resources Manager Shirley Grixti, which supports several social projects in Malta.

As far as the five-star hotel is concerned, the committee represents an opportunity for it to expand its longstanding commitment to society by lending its support to a series of social projects run by sedqa and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services.

The committee has the role of being socially responsible by promoting social welfare, equal employment opportunities at the Grand Hotel Excelsior and by providing access to online education.

The committee, comprised of volunteers from Grand Hotel Excelsior who donate their time and skills to social causes, is made up of employees Shirley Grixti, Sephora Cutajar, Sharon del Bene, Evan Azzopardi, Raymond Camilleri and Kreaton Cutajar.

In particular, it supports high-quality projects that combine innovation and sustainability, and as such the Excelsior’s online learning portal, the Grand Academy, has opened its e-learning opportunities to residents in programmes administered by both sedqa and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services.

The Aid The Community Committee places strong emphasis on encouraging young people and several residents from sedqa projects have been employed at the Excelsior as part of the process of helping to re-integrate skilled people back into the community.

The committee also assist by supporting social events and donating food, drink and staff time to outings and events. A recent outing to Buskett involved eight Excelsior staff supporting 25 people from sedqa with hospitality, specially prepared menus and soft drinks.

Ray Grech, Unit Leader for the Santa Marija Community, expressed his satisfaction with the event, commenting, “When great people like you are involved, we know that it is all coming from the heart.”
