Valletta and Birkirkara were looking to gain some points after having both lost their respective opening matches in the Euro Challenge Cup.

The match took some time to warm up with the first move coming from Birkirkara through a header by Hartwig which was easily saved by goalkeeper Hogg.

It was Valletta who took the lead on 18 minutes from a freekick which was exquisitely converted by their foreign player Leon Kantelberg into the lower corner.

Valletta came close to doubling their lead but both Kantelberg and

Agius saw their shots blocked by the Birkirkara defence.

Birkirkara had a great chance to equalize on 35 minutes but Kakanovic concluded wide after Hogg had mistimed the ball and ended up leaving his net unguarded.

The second half began with Valletta again threatening through Kantelberg who saw his shot well saved by Borg in the Birkirkara goal on 51 minutes. Kantelberg was again in the mix on 58 minutes with a low shot that was well saved by Borg.

Valletta continued on the attack however they failed to add to their advantage until on 84 minutes, Kantelberg secured his second and his team's double with a fine finish after having received from substitute Jamie Pace.

Tomorrow Sliema Wanderers meet Valletta and then Birkirkara face Hibernians on the final day of this Euro Cup
