The declaration by the Malta Standards Authority, announcing the phasing out of the inefficient incandescent and halogen lights from the market, showed how right the Labour Party was when the leader of the opposition proposed last year that incandescent lights should be banned to quicken the changeover to energy saving lights, Labour MP Leo Brincat, party spokesman for the environment, said.
PN representatives had made fun of this at first, saying it was not practical and that the Labour Party was not proposing anything substantive. Now the proposal has been adopted by the EU and even led to the Malta Standards Authority committing itself to eliminate inefficient light bulbs, Mr Brincat added.
