On July 3, the US Naval Forces Band “The Navigators” staged a public performance sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and the Pembroke Local Council in the Pembroke Parish Hall. The band performed a mix of American jazz and pop arrangements with one member alternating between the flute and saxophone while the other three musicians played the accordion, piano and bass. The enthusiastic audience actively participated in the lively and varied repertoire.
Elijah Waterman, the US Embassy’s Public Affairs Officer, spoke about the U.S. Embassy’s commitment to improving the already excellent bilateral relations which exist between the two countries and thanked the Local Councils of Pembroke and Floriana for their sterling support. Navy Band members are trained at the US Navy School of Music, a tri-service training command for all Navy, Marine Corps, and Army musicians, located in Norfolk, Virginia. After graduation, enlisted musicians are assigned to one of twelve Navy Fleet Bands worldwide. All the musicians are capable of playing any style of music with little preparation and most are required to be proficient at playing more than one instrument.
