PL Pushes government on cost of living matters

Malta Independent Monday, 20 July 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

The Labour Party wants to know which of its 23 proposals on the cost of living are being implemented or will be implemented by the government.

In a statement following the prime minister’s interview on Radio 101 yesterday, the Labour Party asked whether Dr Lawrence Gonzi agrees with the proposals put forward by leader Joseph Muscat during Saturday’s conference.

Among other things, the PL suggested the capping of water and electricity bills and for fuel for next year, the freezing of taxes and administrative tariffs, the reduction of VAT in restaurants and a commitment that the public transport reform will not lead to an increase in prices for the consumers.

The PL noted with satisfaction that Dr Gonzi had accepted a Labour suggestion to set up an agency to take care of consumer affairs.
