The Gharghur transmission antenna and parts of Lija and Naxxar were without electricity for some time yesterday morning at about 7am when a private contractor who was carrying out works in the Ghargur vicinity damaged an 11kv electricity cable.

Enemalta said measures were taken to supply the affected areas through an alternative route and excavation works to repair the damaged underground cable were initiated.

Priority was given to the electricity service on the Ghargur transmission and electricity was restored by 8.04am. Ghargur and Naxxar residents had their electricity service restored by 8.42am and Lija residents by 10.30am. The corporation said it is reviewing its legal position and considering legal proceedings against the contractor.
