Berlin Embassy promotes Malta through the united Buddy Bears campaign

Malta Independent Tuesday, 18 August 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Embassy of Malta in Berlin ensured that the Berlin Buddy Bear travelling collection would this year include also the Malta Buddy Bear.

The ‘United Buddy Bear’ campaign is a travelling exhibition, consisting of a huge number of large-sized Berlin Buddy bears, each representing countries within the UN community of nations. The exhibition travels to different countries and destinations, promoting the symbols and cultures of countries via their artistic impressions painted on a gesso Berlin bear.

This year – the Let’s go Europe of 27 EU member states – normally part of the global circle – will be exhibited in central Berlin, in a symbolically united ‘hand in hand’ formation. This year too and for the first time, Malta joins the rest of the international community of nations represented in this travelling exhibition which should visit countries like Azerbaijan and Japan, among others.

The Embassy negotiated the inclusion of the Malta Buddy Bear with the organisers free of charge. It also managed to secure the travel and accommodation costs for Maltese artist Adrian Abela, selected to paint and decorate the Malta Buddy Bear.
