HSBC Tops up Zabbar public library

Malta Independent Sunday, 30 August 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

As part of its commitment to support education in the community, HSBC Bank Malta recently donated funds to enhance the public library in Zabbar and pay for an online indexing system.

Some 500 books have been added to the existing 3,500 titles in the library, which caters for readers of all ages, from infants to adults, with books of different interests. Furthermore, an IT system has been purchased to facilitate the indexing of all the available titles so that members can check availability online right away.

Mayor Dominic Agius and councillor Robert Buhagiar, who is also chairman of the sub-committee for education, youth and sport, thanked HSBC for its support to facilitate literacy in their community.

Accompanied by HSBC Zabbar branch manager Ruth Mangion, HSBC’s southern area director Alex Mizzi said, “HSBC’s activity in the community where it operates goes beyond its core business and it is the bank’s policy to fund initiatives aimed at improving the community’s quality of life. Books, as in this case, are an excellent tool to open horizons, enriching people through education and creativity.”
