The Point at Tigné Point is set to be Malta’s largest shopping centre, but the project’s general manager Edwin Borg feels it will be a lot more than just that.
“They’re saying it’s going to be Malta’s largest shopping centre,” he comments. “But for all of us who have been working on this project and witnessing the gradual transformation of Tigné Point from how we knew it to how it is today, we know it’s not just that. The point is… The Point is going to be so much more.”
In a short time, the public will be able to step through the centre’s doors at The Point. But much has taken shape already. British retail giant Debenhams, with its 2,800 square metres of designer clothing and fashion accessories, is the biggest tenant on site.
It will be flanked by a variety of other retail outlets with well-known brands such as Nike, Guess, Massimo Dutti, Springfield, Reebok, Bata, Lacoste, Women’Secret, Mango, Pull & Bear, J. Piccinino, Stradivarius, Oysho, Mayoral, Segue, Intercomp, Fotovision and Agenda bookstore, not to mention a large supermarket and a few outstanding catering establishments including Cioconat Lounge and a Gelosia ice cream parlour.
All this, together with the dining and entertainment facilities around the adjacent piazzas, will make this destination a truly one-stop shopping venue that is complemented by a spacious and indispensable 1,200 capacity underground parking area.
“Everywhere feels like it is brimming with expectation,” Mr Borg adds. “The feeling is almost tangible and rightly so. We’ve come a long way and with the standards that we are setting here, The Point will be far from just another shopping base. It is going to be a premium venue where social trends, fashion and lifestyle blend to create a unique destination.
“It is not going to be just a 14,000 square metres of retail outlets, but a living space – a prime meeting place where friends, families and generations meet and where shopping is no longer a daily chore but an experience to be cherished. Above all, we have this solid determination to bring The Point to its destined concept – a truly European shopping experience.”
Midi CEO Ben Muscat agrees. “Our biggest anticipation for this project stems from not only the complex itself but mostly from what it will represent and the way it will carve out its own identity in the Maltese market. The Point is expected to consolidate Sliema’s position as the island’s premier shopping destination.
“It will set new standards for customers while re-shaping current shopping and entertainment trends, not only in the locality itself but also on a national level.”
By the end of October, the mechanical and electrical installations, and the finishes of the common areas, will have been completed. This will then be followed by the final phase, which will see tenants finishing and fitting out their units prior to moving in and concluding the final touches in their respective outlets in time for the official opening.
“To date we are proud to have kept to our commitment to deliver the largest and most forward-looking shopping venue in Malta and in so doing, we have spared no expense and left no stone unturned to secure the highest of standards,” Mr Muscat explains.
“Our expectations are very high and we are very confident that The Point is going to be the prime first choice shopping and leisure venue in Malta. Spring 2010 is around the corner and shoppers are surely already waiting with anticipation to take their shopping sprees to a new level.”
