An elderly man was seriously injured in his own home in Triq tal-Balal, San Gwann, yesterday morning, when two hooded men broke into his residence when he was there by himself.

The police said the man, aged 66, was assaulted by the robbers and was even hit with a hard object, ending with injuries to his head and being conveyed to hospital where he was certified to be suffering from serious injuries but not in danger of dying.

The robbers got away with cash and some jewellery, the police said. Duty magistrate Miriam Hayman is conducting an inquiry.
