Cricket: Marsa CC Win series against touring Quick 1888

Over the weekend the Marsa CC took on new touring team Quick 1888 from Nijmegen, Holland.

On Saturday Quick won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mark G.Sacco and Sarfraz Ali opened the batting. Ali was first to go scoring 16 runs from 11 balls. Sacco went on to make 22 runs, Angelo Spiteri made 37 and John Callus 18.

The innings of the day came from Andrew Naudi who scored his second century this year. He scored two sixes and ten fours along the way. For Quick, P Van Noord was the main wicket taker with three, SA Mohammed took two wickets while T Straten and M Ingelsie both took a wicket each. The Marsa team totalled 237 runs from their allotted overs.

In the visitors reply, P Van Noord capped off his wickets by top scoring with 32 runs including three fours. SA Mohammed scored 22 runs, J Dupon played a very long innings and made 24 runs. JW Heshusius made 19 runs and W Brand scored 21.

Quick batted their allotted overs but could only manage 164 runs, losing by 73 runs.

For Marsa, Angelo Spiteri was the main wicket taker with three. Marsa went one nil up in the series.

On Sunday Marsa CC won the toss and elected to bat. Nowell Khosla and Malcolm Crabbe opened the innings. Khosla was first to go scoring 10 runs. Crabbe was next to go, being run out by Debbie Kooij (Kooij has, in the past, represented the Dutch women’s team).

Faraaz Bhatti made 23 runs, Firoz 26 and Joydeep Ghoseroy 32.

A flurry of runs towards the end of the innings from Tony Azzopardi - 41 not out including five fours - helped the Marsa side to a score of 185 runs. T Straten was the main wicket taker for Quick with three. JW Heshusius and M Ingelise both took two and SA Mohammed took one.

In reply the visitors fell short by 55 runs. SA Mohammed top scored with 23 runs and T Straten was next with 22. For Marsa, Firoz and John Farrugia were the main wicket takers with two each.

Marsa won the series 2-0.

Tomorrow Highgate Taveners C.C will join Quick 1888 C.C and Marsa C.C in a one-day 20-over tournament.

On Sunday Marsa C.C play Highgate Taveners C.C in a 40-over game.

Tomorrow the nursery/academy will be from 9am till 10.30am.
