Naturali opened its doors for the public at Smart Supermarket in Birkirkara. This retail brand specialises in and offers an extensive range of Certified Organic products.
While the company sources the majority of its products from foreign suppliers, Naturali is also taking full commitment to promote locally grown organic products, which are certified by the Malta Standards Authority. The company promises to offer the public a range of products that suit all health conscious needs, from vegetarians, to those who simply want to lead a healthy lifestyle, as well as people with alimentary intolerances and who employ specific diets (i.e. diets which must be free from salt, cholesterol, sucrose, fat, lactose, yeast, caffeine, etc).
The product range spans from food to detergents and includes: dairy products and fresh eggs, fresh fruit and veg, meat and meat substitutes, poultry and fish, a range of baby products, sweet and savory bakery, a macrobiotic range, as well as toiletries detergents and cosmetics.
In April, the European Union completed a study on organic food and farming, an exercise that cost e18 million and involved 31 research papers from 31 research and university institutes. So far more than 100 scientific papers from the study have been published – with hundreds more to come. The research programme concluded that levels of a range of nutritionally desirable compounds (e.g. antioxidants, vitamins, and glycosinolates) were shown to be higher in organic crops. Moreover, levels of nutritionally undesirable compounds (e.g. mycotoxins, glycoalkaloids, cadmium and nickel) were shown to be lower in organic crops.
