The concept of LAN partying is a new form of technological entertainment targeting a very specific knowledge-based audience where computer game aficionados get together with their computers and set up a network for the purpose of playing multiplayer computer games.
This innovative means of group entertainment is fast gaining ground in Malta in fact, the latest major LAN party was hosted recently inside Seashells Resort at Suncrest’s Poseidon Hall between 18 and 21 September. During this event, over 100 hardcore computer gamers battled it out for top honours in a 72-hour LAN marathon tournament organised by Compleet IS Services.
“It was quite a scene watching gamers walking in with their own computer equipment, hooking up to one common network and watching them excited and taking part in a range of competitions,” commented Karl Abela from Seashells Resort. “Transparent, water cooled computer towers with colourful illumination on the inside are only one of the many gadgets that make it very apparent that this new form of entertainment is more than just a competition but an occasion to see who is sporting the coolest IT equipment.”
“We were very proud that Seashells Resort at Suncrest was chosen as the venue for this event. Participants in fact found it ideal for such a tournament as they had the opportunity to enjoy quick refreshing breaks in one of the hotel’s rooms and full energy breakfasts in the morning to keep them going throughout the marathon. Parents and friends joined in the event and gave their support to all the gamers throughout this marathon,” added Mr Abela.
