GO recently pledged its full support to heritage organisation Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna, and has been appointed the exclusive communications partner of the NGO. It will provide several of its cutting-edge communications services, including credit on fixed telephone lines, internet service at FWA’s various sites, BlackBerry and mobile service, Web Hosting, free Bandluxe and Internet Everywhere on the move with unlimited 5GB usage.

As a result of the sponsorship signed recently between the two parties, Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna, acknowledged for its ongoing work in the field of heritage preservation, now has the chance to enjoy the exclusive hands-on experience of premium communications services provided by GO. This is aimed at boosting FWA’s drive towards making Maltese world-class cultural heritage more accessible to the Maltese community at large.

FWA is very active in the field of heritage conservation and, with its dedicated team of professionals supported by volunteers, looks after several historical buildings and sites around the Maltese islands. Its properties cover 7,000 years of Maltese history – from pre-history to the 20th century – including a 17th-century coastal tower at Xaghjra, the Lascaris War Rooms in Valletta, the Malta at War Museum extension at Couvre Porte, Vittoriosa, Notre Dame Gate in Vittoriosa, St Thomas Tower in Marsascala, Madliena Tower in Pembroke, Fort Rinella in Kalkara, the Saluting Battery in Valletta.

Speaking about the partnership agreement, GO chief executive officer David Kay said: “We are indeed delighted to be committing ourselves to this worthy cause, to join forces with Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna and have an active role in its efforts to enhance the historical and cultural experience for our customers and their families.

“GO considers this contribution to Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna as a strategic investment towards enhancing the quality of life for the community in which we operate and the partnership will open the doors wide to a number of attractive concessions and privileges for our employees,” he continued.

A presentation was symbolically held at The Saluting Battery in Valletta, where FWA is currently carrying out work that will restore the premises to their former glory while giving an insight into the life of the 18th century naval gunners. During the presentation, FWA executive chairman Mario Farrugia thanked GO for its praiseworthy initiative and said: “We truly appreciate GO’s support of our many projects that share the common objective of raising public awareness of the nation’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

“I trust that the commendable gesture on behalf of GO will encourage other companies to follow suit and work closely with the Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna team – major players locally – to safeguard Malta’s historical and

cultural heritage for the benefit of present and future generations.”
