Azimut Luxury yacht in Malta on maiden voyage

Malta Independent Monday, 7 December 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Azimut Yacht’s latest addition, Magellano 74, will be arriving in Malta on Wednesday, as part of her maiden voyage taking her on a 4,000 nautical mile winter cruise, circumnavigating the western Mediterranean basin. This is an epic maiden test for the yacht, primarily designed as an all-weather long range cruiser.

This maiden voyage will offer the team on board a chance to rediscover the pleasure of motoring at a cruising speed of 11-12 knots, a pace that will make it possible to experience the sea in all its facets.

The boat was launched last month at Azimut-Benetti Group’s Marina di Varazze by Group President, Paolo Vitelli together with Rosita and Ottavio Missoni of the renouned Missoni fashion house.

Rosita Missoni personally added finishing touches to the interior furnishings. This list of personalities present at the launch included Marcello Lippi, who is also a proud Azimut 62 Fly owner. He expressed words of admiration, highlighting the teamwork that made it possible to build a highly advanced yacht that combines the spirit of adventure without forfeiting style, comfort, freedom and safety.

The Magellano is the yacht for those with a genuine passion for the sea and who simply enjoy their time at sea, planning their journey at their own leisurely pace. At the same time, the Azimut Magellano is also the ideal power yacht for long distances, exploring new horizons and tackling waves and choppy or rough seas. With a deep V hull and raked bow section, the Magellano is classed as a semi-displacement motor yacht although it is unlike any other category to date. The Magellano can reach any destination due to the possibility of accelerating up to 24 knots and maintaining stability both when underway and when moored. Stability is further enhanced by her set of Seakeeper Gyroscopic Stabiliser. The project is designed primarily for ease of use and spaces, allowing the owner to skipper the yacht himself with the helm station central on both the flybridge and inside, to ensure maximum visibility at all times.

The Magellano 74 will be berthed at Portomaso Marina and will be open to the public on Thursday, 10 December from 6 to 10pm. Viewing appointments are advised and one may contact Niki Travers Tauss on 9944-2122 or Annelise Poulton on 9983-9304 for further information.
