E3 Systems Malta, a joint venture between the E3 Systems Group of Spain and the Maltese-owned Melita Marine Group, was launched this week to provide advanced marine electronics for super yachts, cruise and commercial ships in Malta. With offices in Mallorca, Barcelona and Antigua and over 30 partners throughout the world, E3 Systems is the largest maritime electronic service provider in the Mediterranean.
During the launch, Roger Horner, Managing Director of the E3 Systems Group, gave a presentation to guests from the maritime industry of the services provided by E3, which range from the recent installation of VSAT on the world’s largest yacht currently under construction to a satellite TV solution on one of the world’s largest cruise liners, the QM2.
“Our new operations office in Malta is an exciting launch as it will enlarge the support umbrella we provide for yachts and ships and it shall enable us to bring some of our existing, large client base to Malta for work,” said Mr Horner. He referred to this as “the Antigua effect”, which was what happened after they opened their office in Antigua last year, to the benefit of other local services.
Among other reasons why E3 was attracted to Malta, Mr Horner mentioned Malta’s strategic location for both yachts and ships which, combined with the existing and developing maritime infrastructure and the cost-effective service, make this the ideal time to open an office on the island.
“We are also satisfied to partner with Melita Marine Group, not only for their invaluable support in the local market but even more for the countless opportunities our combined network of branch offices can provide around the Mediterranean and the Caribbean,” said Mr Horner. “After this decision was made, we also were delighted to discover the financial benefits being made available for external investors, which made us decide to incorporate further companies in Malta and to also move some of our existing international trade to the island.
“Furthermore, in Malta there is government awareness of the value yachting can bring to the country, from the higher spend of the yachting tourist to the revenue generated by the maritime-associated service industry. This is extremely important but unfortunately not found in all Mediterranean countries,” he said.
