Malta Independent Tuesday, 22 December 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

McDonald’s Malta presented Dar il-Kaptan with a contribution of e22,000. This amount was raised during the 8th annual McHappy Day programme of fund raising activities held on Saturday 21 November 2009 to celebrate World Children’s Day. The cheque was presented by McDonald’s Malta Marketing Manager, Joanna Smith Ellis to Vice Chairperson of Dar il-Kaptan Mr Freddie Bezzina.

“The aim of this event was not only to raise funds for Dar il-Kaptan but also to raise awareness about the good work carried out by the team at Dar il-Kaptan. Judging by the huge number of people who participated in the activities, the aim has clearly been reached. On behalf of McDonald’s Malta, we thank everyone involved for their support,” said McDonald’s Marketing Manager, Joanna Smith Ellis.

Dar il-Kaptan, Vice Chairperson, Freddie Bezzina explained that the service they provide offers periodic rest intervals (residential care) to families who are continuously caring for a member of their family who has a disability. The period could be an overnight, a weekend or a full week’s residential stay. Since Dar il-Kaptan is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation, it depends a lot on fundraising activities and donations. “It has been a tough year for us to cater for all the financial needs but thanks to McDonald’s this year we can end the year on a positive note” said Mr Freddie Bezzina.
