The Employment and Training Corporation recently organised a national seminar to promote its services to stakeholders, employers and human resources managers working in the hospitality industry.
In the past months, ETC was busy launching various programmes funded by the European Union that provide direct benefits to employers, workers and jobseekers. ETC representatives gave detailed information about the Employment Aid Programme which provides the industry with skilled and qualified staff for a work experience opportunity, the Training Aid Framework through which the industry can train its workforce up to PhD level, and the various training programmes offered free of charge by ETC under its Employability Programme.
During the seminar, the corporation also informed attendees about its Work Trial Scheme which provides work exposure to various groups of registrants, its Youth Employment Programme that is intended to provide career guidance, outreach and counselling services for young jobseekers, and its EURES recruitment service for EU citizens seeking employment in the local industry. The ETC speakers also touched upon various other services including its Training Subsidy Scheme that assists self-employed persons and persons employed in micro-enterprises of 10 or less employees to develop their skills by participating in further off-the-job vocational education. Other services such as traineeships, apprenticeships, career guidance, profiling and matching services, and various other services that may be availed of by both employers and employees where also presented to the attending public.
ETC invited the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE) to inform guests about gender discrimination in the recruitment process and equality in the workplace. NCPE representatives gave a presentation on their newly launched Equality Mark campaign that will be awarded to local equal opportunities employers.
The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) also collaborated with ETC on this seminar. MTA representatives spoke about human resources and quality development in the hospitality industry. MTA training programmes, the CHOICE programme, tourism awareness and career promotion initiatives were explained.
Various speakers and guests from leading hotels spoke about their experiences relating to the use of ETC services, the importance of creating equality at the place of work, as well as about motivating staff as an essential prerequisite for the development of the industry.
ETC organised this seminar jointly with the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA). Employers and human resources managers in the hospitality industry and other industries can contact ETC to obtain more information on the various employment schemes, training subsidies and programmes, and recruitment services, by e-mail on [email protected] or by phone on 2165 4940.
