Over 40 per cent of adults snore, but when you consider the unlucky bed partner of the snorer, snoring could affect the sleep of up to 80 per cent of adults. Around 80 per cent of snoring couples periodically sleep in separate bedrooms and almost nine in 10 say their relationship would be better if the snoring was solved, according to GlaxoSmithKline, manufacturers of Breathe Right Nasal Strips.
Furthermore, lack of sleep caused by snoring not only affects relationships and leads to tiredness, it can also affect work performance. Snoring by a sufferer or partner is in fact also a frequent condition complained about in pharmacies in Malta, as confirmed by feedback received by pharmacists from some of their consumers.
This was confirmed during a stint held at the showing of the film Avatar at the Eden Century Cinemas last Sunday (January 24). On entering the theatre, patrons were handed a sample of Breathe Right nasal strips. A commercial then showed a female partner enduring her better half’s noisy sleep. Then the actress comes out on stage asking the audience for a snoring aid and a patron in the audience hands her a Breathe Right nasal strip.
When asked, some patrons said that snoring had an impact on their life, resulting in tiredness and poorer performance during the day. Snoring by a partner is, in fact, a frequent condition for which consumers ask pharmacists for a solution. Consumers also say they do not sleep well when they have a nasal congestion due to a cold or allergy.
Nasal congestion, for example from colds and allergies, is one of the more common causes of snoring. It makes the blood vessels in the nose swell up, meaning less air can flow in.
It is advisable that snorers consult a GP to investigate the cause of snoring and determine whether it can be helped with simple measures, like drug-free nasal strips, or referred to specialist care in case of a more serious condition.
GP Dr Paul Falzon said: “Snoring can be quite an inconvenience for those sharing their sleep with a snorer. Unless tackled, it can actually lead to marital problems.”
Breathe Right Nasal Strips have been tested in clinical trials and found to ease the nasal congestion that may cause snoring. Research shows breathing is eased in 75 per cent of snorers. The end result is a better night’s sleep: 90 per cent of users reported improved sleep quality and less sleepiness during the day after using Breathe Right Nasal Strips. Because they are drug-free, Breathe Right Nasal Strips can be used in conjunction with other medications or on their own. Breathe Right Nasal Strips work by gently lifting the nostrils and widening the nasal passages.
Breathe Right Nasal Strips are available from pharmacists.
