Opposition leader Joseph Muscat’s China visit came to an end yesterday in the city of Shanghai where he met various officials from central and city government. During the meeting, the Labour Party was briefed on the opening of the Shanghai expo next month. Dr Muscat pointed out that the fact that Maltese President George Abela was invited to this event shows the respect our small country is given by China. Dr Muscat also asked to meet the son of a Chinese worker who died in Malta during the construction of a drydock in March 1979. In fact, he later met Xu Genyuan, whose father was awarded a medal by the Maltese authorities. The family was emotional during the meeting and said it was an honour to know that Malta still remembered their loved one.
