A 31-year-old Romanian was given a two-year jail term suspended for four years after he pleaded guilty to forcing his way into a Paceville bar, along with family members and friends on Sunday afternoon.
Before Magistrate Audrey Demicoli, Vasile Danciu, who lives in Paceville, was charged with theft, because he and the people he was with helped themselves to drinks at the bar, which was closed at the time.
He also pleaded guilty to threatening and disobeying the police, breaching the peace, having been drunk without being able to take care of himself and causing about €500 damage to the bar, owned by Marco Bonnici.
The Romanian was ordered to pay for damages within six months.
Police inspectors Nikolai Sant and Malcolm Bondin prosecuted and legal aid lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace appeared for the accused.
