A group of 7dancers from Alegria Academia, Birkirkara Malta and one student from Alegria India attended the XIV Festival de Jerez 2010, held recently. This is an annual Flamenco Festival which is held in the popular town of Jerez de la Frontera, famous for its sherry and horses. For a duration of two weeks, Jerez comes alive with Flamenco dancers from all over the world, who come to attend courses and indulge in daily performances given by the greatest Maestros of Flamenco dance, song and guitar, including Farruquito, Maria Del Mar Moreno, Miguel Poveda, Joaquin Grilo, La Macanita, Lola Greco, Andres Marin and Matilde Coral amongst many others.
The representatives from Malta and India (pictured) attended workshops with Maria del Mar Moreno, Andres Pena, Alicia Marquez, Pilar Ogalla and Leonor Leal and all excelled in their classes obtaining certificates. Alegria Academia has been participating in this festival for the last 12 years and is well represented each year. It is a great opportunity for any Flamenco student to attend this festival as the whole city breathes Flamenco and also offers lectures in various aspects of this art form.
