Magistrate Laurence Quintano yesterday sentenced Brooks Lia to 33 months imprisonment and handed his sister Gina Lia a two-year jail term suspended for four years after the pair were charged with participating in several acts of theft and fraud. Police Inspectors Robert Vella and Angelo Gafa, who led prosecution against the siblings, said that between the months of April and June 2008, they caught Gina Lia, who lives in Mosta, in acts of fraud and stealing €11, 000 worth in possessions and money from several proprietors and companies. However, the Police Inspectors said Mrs Lia cooperated fully with the police and even returned some of the objects and money back to some persons. Brooks Lia, who is a prison inmate, stole approximately €500 from the Paola Lotto Booth, but since he is a relapser, Magistrate Quintano said he was left with no option but to sentence Mr Lia to imprisonment for a maximum of 33 months.
