Thousands of avid television viewers have already registered their interest for Melita’s High Definition (HD) television service, which will be launched to the public next month in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Since Melita announced that it will be making HD available in the Maltese Islands for the first time ever, the company has received very encouraging feedback from customers wanting to be among the first to experience HD quality.
Melita’s HD content will cover not only football and sports but also a wide-ranging variety of topics to suit all viewers – from lifestyle to music, children, documentaries, movies and more. Melita is launching 10 dedicated HD channels that include prestigious names like Discovery HD Showcase and MTVN HD among others, besides a dedicated sports channel broadcasting the 2010 FIFA World Cup in HD in collaboration with TVM.

Melita and PBS have agreed to share broadcasting rights for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Melita is providing live broadcasts of all 64 World Cup matches in both HD and normal transmission (Standard Definition), accompanied by English and Maltese commentaries. All games of the Italian national team will be accompanied by a live commentary in Italian.
Last week Melita also unveiled its new television channel line-up with the total number of channels increasing to 140, besides the 10 HD channels that will be launched soon, bringing the total available TV channels on the Melita platform to a whopping 150– almost triple the amount of channels currently offered by other local pay TV operators.
Together with the HD service, Melita is also launching a new highly advanced set top box which will allow customers to pause, record and rewind live television at will, make use of a completely newly designed Electronic Programme Guide and a fully fledged media centre which includes a massive 320Gb in-built hard disk and USB inputs.
