Egyptian Tourism Authority Event

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 June 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

This year the Egyptian Tourism Authority has embarked on a mission to rebrand the tourism product offered by Egypt. The fresh image that Egypt is portraying was brought to life during an event held for the local travel trade at the Westin Dragonara Resort early this month.

The event was organised by the director of the Egyptian Tourism Authority based in Rome who also is responsible for Malta, Counsel Mohamed Abdel Gabbar, in collaboration with H. E. Mr Abdel Mawgoud El Habashy, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt for Malta.

Mr Gabbar was accompanied by his assistant Mohamed Abdel Ghani and Wael Kadry, the newly appointed director of Egypt Air for Italy and Malta. Mr Kadry is looking forward to the extension of more operations in Malta especially as a base for charter flight operations. The developments taking place in the aviation field are of interest to a company such as Egypt Air.

During his address Mr Gabbar highlighted the diversity of the product Egypt has to offer. Many people are fixed with one image or view of Egypt, but there is much more to what first meets the eye. He is looking towards directing more investment in marketing, and opening up further the Egyptian tourism product. Mr Mohamed Khattan, manager of Mist Travel, Egypt’s largest and oldest travel agency, also formed part of the delegation.

The event was also addressed by Dr Tonio Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr Borg spoke of his recent visit to Egypt and his good impression of the country both for business and travel. He also encouraged the travel agents present to discover more about what Egypt has to offer in order to provide the Maltese public with a better and more in-depth experience of the destination.

H. E. Mr Abdel Mawgoud El Habashy, who partly addressed those present in Maltese, stressed on the similarities between both people, culturally and linguistically.

The success of this event has ensured similar events to take place in future, as it is the Egyptian Tourism Authorities intention of remaining close to all those interested in offering travel to Egypt.
