The Nationalist Party's Electoral, Records and Data Commission said Wednesday that the only expression of interest received for the leadership post was that of Alex Borg, the incumbent.
As stipulated by Article 90a of the Statute of the Partit Nazzjonalista, the call for expressions of interest for this post was open for seven days. It opened on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, and closed today. This process began after the PN General Council launched the election process for the appointment of the PN Leader one week ago today.
After the PN Electoral Commission received the declaration of interest form from Alex Borg, as provided for in the party statute, it informed the party's Candidates Commission, which will now carry out the necessary verifications.
Once this due diligence process is concluded, the Candidates Commission will submit its report to the PN Administrative Council and to the Electoral Commission, together with a declaration as to whether the member who expressed interest satisfies the verification criteria.
Subsequently, within three days, the Electoral Commission will officially open nominations for this post for a period of five days. During this period, only the person who expressed interest and passed the due diligence process may submit a nomination.
