Malta Independent Sunday, 27 June 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The quaint village of Marsascala has again been chosen by the young artist Anton Abela for his fourth solo art exhibition, hosted at Nuvo Art & Dine, a German owned restaurant where one can savour fine cuisine surrounded by local art talent. This exhibition entitled Food and Art: United was officially opened on 8th June by the Hon. Dr. Joseph Muscat MP. Also present was the chef owner Mr. Stefan Schulte, Marsascala Mayor Mr. Mario Calleja, sponsors and numerous guests which included also local artists.

The opening speeches started off with a couple of words by Mr. Stefan Schulte, who explained about the modern concept of his restaurant, which had started off in 2006. In front of a large number of guests he went on to say that apart from having a restaurant which specializes in traditional German cuisine with some Maltese touches that are always made with fresh ingredients, he wanted his restaurant to be also used for promoting young Maltese artists.

In his opening speech, the Hon. Dr. Joseph Muscat expressed his gratitude at being invited to an event dealing with food and art, two of his and many others’ favourite elements. Dr. Muscat pointed out that this exhibition can be considered as another stepping stone in Anton’s artistic career. In the speech, he went on to say that this is an exhibition of a young artist, who can already be considered as being one of the established artists of the Maltese islands. Dr. Muscat went on to say that Anton’s work is quite intriguing and that he himself found some work particularly interesting personally. He said there is a lot to Anton’s work that one needs to look at the exhibits in detail to fully appreciate the artistic talent. Dr. Muscat ended his speech by wishing Anton success for this exhibition and for the future while urging him not to let his young age to be a hindrance in trying to reach higher goals. Dr. Muscat said that he looks forward to seeing more of Anton’s work.

On his part, the artist Anton Abela addressed the sizeable crowd by first thanking Dr. Joseph Muscat for officially opening his fourth solo exhibition, his genuine interest in Anton’s work and for his words of encouragement. Anton also thanked Mr. Stefan Schulte for once again hosting the exhibition at his restaurant, his family, sponsors, friends and their guests. Their unflagging support encourages him to go on producing fantastic and unique pieces of contemporary art. In this particular exhibition one can immediately see the connection between food and art through Anton’s skilful use of different media. The exhibition is under the patronage of Mr. Joseph Portelli and sponsored by the owners of Nuvo Art & Dine: Stefan, Peter and Georgina Schulte, ThermoNetz underfloor heating, Erdinger Weissbrau, Deco Gallery, Grafarts Art Supplies, Kasco Group, Sunland Printers, Delicata Wines, The Lightshop, The Frame Shop and Rumark Stationery.
