Malta Independent Monday, 5 July 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Shortly after its second anniversary, Lidl Malta Ltd organised its first grand meeting for over 130 staff members. This event was hosted at the Le Meridien St Julian’s with the claim “Make it your business”, emphasising the importance of being local.

The meeting highlighted the achievements of the previous two years, sharing specific success-stories between staff and management alike. Lidl Malta is focusing on freshness, quality and availability, friendliness and customer service and above all further improving the shopping experience by investing in store refurbishments for both employees and customers.

The company is taking all the necessary steps to further improve staff satisfaction by providing state of the art welfare rooms with fully equipped kitchens and facilities. Lidl Malta is also implementing a time management system that ensures payment for every minute that has been worked and is introducing a new and unrivalled pay structure in the Maltese retail sector.

The management also took the opportunity to congratulate the winners of the Lidl Malta Football Cup team, which will now represent Malta on an international scale. Three Maltese teams, made up of Lidl Malta employees, competed against each other in a local tournament with the winning team now playing their next match in Reggio Calabria on Sunday, 25 July.

The evening carried on with a live band performance by The Mix, a barbecue and Lidl own branded drinks served by the Le Meridien Team.

Lidl Malta Ltd started its operation in Malta in April 2008 with three stores and has now expanded its network to five outlets. It is part of the Schwarz Group, a multinational operating in the retail industry. Schwarz was founded in Germany in the 1970s and after 20 years, started its expansion activities across Europe. Currently the group is present in 24 countries with more than 9,000 stores and more than 150,000 employees.
