SmartCity Malta, in conjunction with its contractors 3Bees JV and the Xghajra Local Council, will carry out excavation work of the Sports & Recreational Centre in Xghajra, covering an area of approximately 2,600 square metres. This new facility will be open to the general public to enjoy as an open area/family playing ground.

The Sports & Recreational Centre will include a large belvedere, a multi-purpose hall including sanitary facilities and changing rooms, a playing field, a pitch that can be used as a basketball pitch together with a cycle track, a picnic area and landscaping works. All the above-mentioned areas will include ramps to facilitate accessibility to all. Underground reservoirs will also be built to store rainwater that will be used to irrigate the landscaped areas.

The project is located mainly between two roads, Triq l-Awrat, which is a residential road, and Triq il-Fortizza tal-Grazzja, which is one of the main roads that leads to the Xghajra Promenade. The site is adjacent to an existing football pitch and close to the Batterija tal-Grazzja.

The Xghajra Local Council wishes to reaffirm its appreciation for the continual support of SmartCity Malta to the locality of Xghajra, which, together with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport & Communications (MITC) are supporting this project
