Make Your mark in Credit Management

Malta Independent Sunday, 5 September 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

As in previous years, the Malta Association of Credit Management is organizing two courses in this field for those who work in the area. This is the seventh year that such courses are being organised. Local students have always excelled, with several placing among the very top in the world.

The diplomas are as follows:

ICM Diploma in Credit Management – Level 3

ICM Diploma in Credit Management – Level 5.

Both qualifications are highly regarded by the industry as they provide opportunities to specialize and develop qualities that could easily be applied to other managerial roles.

The business environment is constantly changing, with customers demanding more credit and 80 to 90 per cent of business-to-business transactions involving payment at a later date with credit terms being extended regularly. Additionally, the debtor’s item on the balance sheet is usually the largest liquid asset – at times representing close to 40 per cent of the total assets of a business organisation.

The MACM has been at the forefront to change the approach to Credit Management in Malta, which, at best, is treated with a laissez-faire attitude. It operates from the MACM training centre at 86/2, Triq ta’ Mellu in Mosta and is the accredited International Credit Management (ICM) Training Centre in Malta. On its part, the ICM is the only recognized body by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in the UK that awards qualifications in Credit Management.

“It is clear that a culture of Credit Management is very far from being standard practice in Malta. However, we have been extremely successful with our courses. Proof of this is the fact that local participants on our courses have consistently placed at the very top and have also won several awards practically every year. In fact, in 2009, three Maltese students placed first in the world in their ICM Diploma exams, which surely is to their credit and which should hopefully foster an increase of interest in the culture of Credit Management locally,” MACM Course Administrator Josef Busuttil said.

Registration for courses is open till 24 September. The courses begin in October and will be held at the MACM Training Centre in Mosta. For further details please contact the MACM Secretariat on telephone numbers: 2142 3638/9 or via e-mail on [email protected]
