Malta Independent Sunday, 3 October 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Foundation for Human Resources Development will be holding its annual conference on 8 October from 9am to 4pm at the Intercontinental Hotel in St Julian’s.

Over 250 general managers and human resources managers from over 113 organisations and business across the island will meet for one day to discuss the challenges they are facing at the moment due to increased global competition, the impact of the recession, managing cost reduction and implementing measures to retain high staff motivation.

The speakers are leading Maltese consultants and managers, namely Dr John C. Grech, chairman of EMCS Group, Joshua Zammit, deputy vice-president Actavis Group, and Ms Annika Galea, director of HR Hilton Malta apart from Prof Leighton who will speak about the EU legal implications of Employment Law to companies as well as Jon Worth who together with Saviour Balzan will make a case for social media as the tool for marketing and innovation. Other speakers include Bruno Cassar, senior vice president FimBank plc, and David Spiteri Gingell, Managing Partner LoQus Business Consulting Ltd.

The conference will also include an HR and Training Fair where over 17 exhibitors will present their services and products.

Daniela Gouder from FHRD said that the conference has become a focal point for general managers and managers in Malta to meet, share experiences and discuss the issues presenting the greatest challenges at the time. She said the financial crises and the economic recession together with the challenges of globalisation compelled most companies to revisit their strategies and position in the market. With this in mind, FHRD chose “Change” as the major theme of this conference together with other associated topics that managers face in their daily operations.

Ms Gouder expressed satisfaction that this year the conference has attracted a record number of organisations and participants while the stands at the HR and Training Fair have been taken up by exhibitors who consider this event as an important means to market their products and services. The foundation is organising the HR and Training Fair for the first time.
