HSBC-Vodafone Export And Innovation Awards winners announced

Malta Independent Sunday, 5 December 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Four manufacturing and services-related Maltese businesses have been recognised for their strong commitment to export and innovation, winning the inaugural “HSBC/Vodafone Export and Innovation Awards” in their respective categories. The prestigious awards were presented by Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE, one of the world’s greatest living explorers, during a gala presentation ceremony held last month at Hilton Malta. Also present for the event was Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Land in the Ministry of Finance, the Economy and Investment Jason Azzopardi.

The different categories ensured SMEs could compete on a level playing field with larger companies, as each entrant was assessed on its own merits.

The four winners will now gain automatic entry to the 2011 European Business Awards, which HSBC also supports. Cash prizes have been provided by HSBC that will be donated to charities of the winners’ choice.

Alan Richards, HSBC Malta Group CEO said, “The ability of companies to break into international markets is a critical success factor for many businesses. We know that exporters are key to long term, sustainable economic growth and HSBC is committed to supporting its clients in helping them to open up new markets.

“The quality of applications has been extraordinarily high and the 12 finalists are testament to the entrepreneurial flair and innovation that is a defining characteristic of the Maltese business community. Congratulations go to the winners who are role models that Malta will be proud of and will, I hope, encourage more local businesses to think internationally.”

Inaki Berroeta, Chief Executive Officer at Vodafone said: “Vodafone strongly believes in the need to recognise and reward local businesses for placing innovation at the forefront of their competitive strategy by dedicating resources and time to launch innovative products, services and new ways of working and doing business. Vodafone, as a global player, prides itself in placing innovation at the heart of its competitive and differentiation strategy. We are therefore delighted at the response and interest the first awards have generated. All finalists, and particularly the winners, deserve the recognition and admiration of the whole business community.”
