Eden Cinemas have introduced subtitled movies for the hearing impaired. Throughout the last months Eden Cinemas have been working with their distributors to see how this service can be offered to people with hearing disabilities. This can now be done through the recently installed digital projection system available in three main Eden Cinemas screens namely cinema 16, 6 and 11.
Before the Eden Cinemas invested in digital technology, the showing of one off subtitled movies was prohibitive financially, because an additional print would have to be acquired for these one off shows however the digital installation allows significantly more flexibility in programming.
While the majority of the public do not like to watch films with subtitles, the Eden Cinemas are introducing this initiative to allow people with hearing difficulties the possibility to enjoy the movies that others do. Most films in these screens show 3D films which require a different type of format than the 2D films.
Until the end of the year, Eden Cinemas is planning to show Chronicles of Narnia the Voyage of the Dawn Treader – 3D and Gulliver’s Travels – 3D. These shows will be screened on a Saturday afternoon at approximately 6pm.
Through the Eden Cinema website and newspaper listings, patrons can get the latest information as to the exact timings and dates of these and other upcoming movies. Alternatively one can email on [email protected] or call on 2371 0400.
