Information Meeting on eco-contribution by GreenPak to be held tomorrow

Malta Independent Thursday, 20 January 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Businesses producing packaging and packaging material have a legal obligation to recover and recycle a percentage of this packaging. Packaging on which eco-contribution is paid is exempted if they join an authorised waste recovery scheme.

In light of the recent legislative developments, GreenPak will be organising an information meeting at the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry building in Valletta tomorrow at 2.30pm.

The meeting will tackle various topics of interest to entrepreneurs which include the registration and enforcement of the law currently in place by Mepa, the eco tax exemption mechanism and the various benefits of joining a compliance scheme.

GreenPak will be setting up a support desk to provide assistance to individuals who need help in filling the necessary forms due by the end of January 2011. These forms include the eco-contribution exemption application.

Ing Mario Schembri, GreenPak Coop CEO said: “As Malta’s largest waste recovery scheme, GreenPak aims to recover and recycle as much waste as possible, therefore reducing the amount of waste going to landfills. This meeting helps to make businesses and entrepreneurs more aware of their rights and responsibilities in light of the new legislation, as well as offer them options to efficiently and effectively recover their waste.”
