The Chloé Spring/Summer 2011 show at Paris Fashion Week was refreshingly lean and streamlined. Hannah MacGibbon at Chloé, the soft-spoken designer is making a lot of noise at the helm of one of fashion’s most beloved brands.
She has lightened up this collection with crisper whites and delicate fabrics, bestowing an ethereal quality on the spring designs. The result was a collection which truly exemplifies the beauty of minimalism: the classic silhouettes were stunning in their simplicity and lightness.
The colour palette was neutral, but amidst the expected shades of beige, tan and white, was a single, perfect shock of red. The collection featured a number of ensembles that resembled those of a traditional ballerina, particularly the tops paired with chiffon pleated tea length skirts and ballet shoes. There were touches of Grecian goddess in the ruched and one-shouldered dresses as well, but MacGibbon checked any excessive girlishness with modern pieces like the black leather shorts and top. Overall the Chloé Spring/Summer 2011 show delivered an effortlessly polished collection.
