Sig. Giovanni Meneghini, editor of the popular Italian glossy magazine, ‘Il Gusto Italiano’, was recently in Malta to organise “Malta incontra l’Italia”, a three day workshop held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa in San Anton between 17 and 19 March.
During the event, a variety of exquisite Italian culinary products was presented to the Maltese business community, with the aim of establishing trade links and potential sales collaboration in the future. Typical items included salame di cinghiale, prosciutto crudo di San Daniele, prosciutto di cinghiale, porchetta affumicata, olio d’oliva extra vergine dei Colli Euganei, Raddhio Bianco e Rosso di Treviso, home-made fresh pasta, and the universal favourite tiramisu.
The highlight of this business initiative was a dinner held in the hotel’s elegant Villa Corinthia, to which members of the local business community, including hoteliers, restaurateurs, as well as food and wine connoisseurs were invited. Signora Bertilla Targhetta, a renowned Italian Chef and restaurant owner, assisted by Corinthia executive chef Ismael Sammut and his kitchen brigade, prepared a seven-course Italian gastronomic feast, using some of the various specialities that were imported for the three-day event. All seven food courses were complemented by different types of Italian Red, White, Rosé and Sparkling “Methode Champenoise” Wines.
Delighted by the success of the event, Sig. Meneghini thanked Corinthia Palace Hotel general manager Italico Rota and his team for their hospitality and promised that this was only the first of many such promotions he will be organising.
