A contingent of over 80 employees from Alf. Mizzi and Sons (Marketing) Group will spend today carrying out maintenance and improvement work at Dar Sagra Familja in Zabbar, as part of Malta’s Corporate Social Responsibility Day being celebrated today. Alf. Mizzi & Sons (Marketing) Group’s participation in this event was made possible through a grant by The Alfred Mizzi Foundation.

Dar Sagra Familja is run by the Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition, who take care of children in need and provide them with a home, love and affection. Volunteers from the group will paint areas of the children’s home, while others will give the outside areas and gardens a total facelift. All residents at the home will be given a goodies bag by the Group, while the nuns will be given food by the company.

The Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition have been in Malta since 1842. Saint Emily de Vialar, the foundress of the congregation, was on her way to Algiers when she was shipwrecked at Malta; the saint saw in this a sign from God to establish her congregation here. She opened a school at Vittoriosa, and soon after the sisters were asked to take care of the Conservatory at Cospicua for orphans in the Cottonera district. Today the sisters have four schools in Malta.

A number of companies are participating in this year’s CSR Day, lending a helping hand to organisations that provide support to children and adults in difficult social situations. This year’s participating companies include Alf Mizzi and Sons (Marketing) Group, Deloitte, Enemalta, Gasan Group of Companies, HSBC Bank Malta, MSV Life Insurance, Malta Enterprise, Simonds Farsons Cisk, Tumas Group, Vassallo Group of Companies and Watson Arrow Pharm. These are also being supported by members of Junior Chamber International (Malta) and the Maltese Association of The Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of Malta.
