GAP Developers plc, the developers of the multi-awarded Fort Cambridge project have announced that they have awarded the tender for the installation of the complex’s pools to Charles Micallef Swimming Pools Ltd. These will be complementing Malta’s leading residential project with pools that make use of the latest environmental-friendly technologies. Indeed, the pools in Fort Cambridge will incorporate technologies such as a Certikin Salt Chlorinator and an eco-friendly lighting system. “Recognised internationally for its use of innovative, eco-friendly technologies, this is another step forward into making Fort Cambridge the crown jewel of Maltese residential developments,” said GAP Director Paul Attard when speaking about the pools’ tender and the salt chlorinator – a technology that is being used in commercial pools in Malta for the first time.

Certikin’s Salt Chlorinator is a greener, more natural way to disinfect pool water. It makes use of naturally occurring products that are safer to handle than chlorine. The salt in the swimming pool water is transformed by an electrolysis cell into chlorine gas, a powerful disinfectant that is instantly diffused into the water. The chlorine solution produced destroys micro-organisms in the cell and maintains a controllable level of free chlorine in the pool while eliminating chloramines responsible for red eyes & that strong chlorine smell. The active chlorine is constantly regenerated by the cell without any user intervention. Moreover, the saline pool water is also kinder to the bathers’ skin and more comfortable to swim in.

Both the inner and outer pools will comprise an eco-friendly lighting system that makes use of LED lights, rather than the conventional 300W bulbs. The use of LEDs in the lighting system ensures a much lower consumption of energy, with a maximum of 35W per bulb, without diminishing the lighting capacity of the new system.

Built on the Tigne peninsula of Sliema, the Fort Cambridge residential project comprises purpose-built seafront apartments designed with comfort and excellence in mind. “Our vision for Fort Cambridge has always been that of a residential complex that is not only associated with luxury living but also with modern innovation in Malta. We have always chosen to make use of the latest technologies, both in construction and also for our resident’s comforts. It is for this reason that we are very proud of our latest achievements, that continue to make Fort Cambridge the most sought-after address in the Mediterranean Region,” said Mr Attard. The development of Fort Cambridge is now into its very final stages and is on target for completion by mid 2011
