Bank of Valletta is supporting the annual traditional Mixeghla in Siggiewi that will see the entire footpath leading to the ‘Salib tal-Gholja’ lit up with over almost two thousand candles. This event is organised by the Siggiewi Local Council and is held on the night between Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (tonight).
From an event with 70 hand-made candles in 1993, this initiative has grown into a national event featuring thousands of candles and proving very popular with the Maltese and tourists alike who climb the ‘Gholja’ along the path lit up by the candles.
Patricia Cutajar, manager of Bank of Valletta’s branch in Siggiewi presented the Bank’s sponsorship to Jesmond Tanti, co-ordinator of the ‘Mixeghla’ and Nicholas Baldacchino, Executive Secretary of the Siggiewi Local Council during the final preparations for the ‘Mixeghla’.
“Bank of Valletta’s commitment towards the Community in which it operates goes beyond the provision of financial services” said Ms Cutajar. “We are proud to be associated with an initiative that has become a permanent fixture within Malta’s Cultural Calendar”.
