As the raging fanaticism about divorce continues to climb towards the apex of hysteria, today we can take a break from it all and watch one of the most elaborate displays of pageantry in the world – the royal wedding of a prince.
We are of course, talking about William and Kate Middleton, soon to be Windsor and princess. There can be no doubts, this couple are truly in love. The way they hold each other, kiss each other openly, walk together and talk together – it is all there to see.
While many might believe that the Diana factor will be heavy, we disagree. Kate is the new royal darling, and she seems to have that special touch that William’s mother had. She is good with people.
Kate is beautiful, intelligent and successful – all under her own steam. She and William had a wobble some years back, in terms of press intrusion, but all seems to have been resolved. Britain, and it seems the world, is genuinely happy to see such a lovely couple tie the knot. It will be hard for Kate. She is to marry the second in line to the throne, and she will have Diana’s reputation to live up to. But we are convinced that she will do it in her own way, with the support of a loving husband who has always had a good head on his shoulders.
William knows that one day, he will be King and Britannia will have to come first. But right now, he is just a young Air Force pilot getting married to quite possibly, the loveliest girl in town.
This wedding, which we would all do well to watch, should bring a sense of equilibrium to the hysterics that are blighting Malta at present. Everyone likes to see a young couple in love tie the knot.
While some will argue that the Royal Family has made an ‘insurance policy’, in terms of a prenuptial agreement, others will argue that it shows that Kate wants to marry William and is not thinking about breaking up, for lack of a better term, in the future.
And this is a fundamental point. No one, anywhere, enters into marriage with the thought of one day walking away. What we do have to accept, as a people, is that it happens. People get separated and the only issue at stake here is to give those who have been in a failed marriage another chance. But that is for another day. Today is all about William and Kate, the beautiful royal couple. We wish them health, luck and happiness. Congratulations to the bride and groom.
