Vodafone Employees share part of their salaries with those in need

Malta Independent Saturday, 30 April 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

In their annual initiative of solidarity, employees from Vodafone Malta have contributed over €9,000 to three organisations of their choice. Through the Vodafone Employee Contribution for Charity Scheme, employees make a monthly donation that is taken directly from their salary. The choice of organisations for this year are Inspire, Caritas and Dar tal-Providenza.

“Our commitment to the community underlies the core values and principles of the company,” said Martin Gregory, Head of Human Resources at Vodafone Malta. “To Vodafone Malta social investment is not an add-on to business activities but is at the heart of how we engage with our customers, employees, investors and suppliers and the society we live in. The Employee Charity Contribution scheme is one initiative that underlines the fact that Vodafone, together with its employees believes in helping different charitable institutions carry out sterling work in our community,” he stated.

“In tough economic times, Vodafone Malta’s employees continue to reach out to the community and to Inspire,” said Joshua Farrugia, Fund Raising Manager at Inspire. “This shows that Vodafone and its team members are firm believers in the work we do. Without their continuous help our organistaion would not be able to fully achieve its proven worthwhile aims,” he emphasised.

Fr Martin Micallef from id-Dar tal-Providenza thanked all Vodafone employees for choosing id-Dar tal-Providenza as one of their favourite charities. “In the European year dedicated to volunteering, Vodafone’s annual initiative to raise funds and support charitable organisations sends out a positive message to the society we live in, on the true value of volunteering. In turn this motivates people to become involved,” sustained Fr Micallef.

Carmel Cremona from Caritas Malta said that Caritas appreciates Vodafone’s initiative, “it is admirable that Vodafone’s employees give a share from their salary to help us in the services we provide. This noble gesture gives us a new impetus and boost to help people who face difficulties and who turn to us for help.”

The funds raised annually by Vodafone’s team members will further help those persons seeking care and refuge at these charitable institutions.
