Maltese Figolli in Brussels

Malta Independent Sunday, 8 May 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Maltese Embassy in Belgium promotes Maltese culture regularly both with foreigners, by means of exhibitions and also with the Maltese community in Brussels. Last Christmas was a historical first for Malta because the Embassy managed to include a Maltese Crib in the Cathedral of Brussels.  The Embassy also held a Christmas concert at Dar Malta. For Easter, the Embassy wanted to organise a figolla day for the Maltese community.  Several participated with home made figolli.  They were very beautifully decorated and were accompanied by the compulsory chocolate Easter egg. There were other Maltese specialities some of which supplied by Maltese manufacturers and others made in the Ambassador’s residence according to Maltese recipes. The event was held at the residence of the Ambassador H.E. Pierre Clive Agius on a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon which is unusual for this time of the year in Brussels. It was quite a treat for the children to eat such delicious figolli and many of the adult guests were delighted to eat figolli off plates emblazoned by the Maltese coat of arms!
