The Malta Stock Exchange Index shed more than 15 points, or 0.5 per cent on Friday, to end the week at the 3,396.892 level. Investor sentiment was mixed as three equities closed higher while three finished lower, with just a single issue closing unchanged.
In the banking sector, Bank of Valletta plc, dropped 4c, or 1.4 per cent, to close at €2.790 on moderate volume of 27,195 shares across 18 deals.
HSBC Bank Malta plc shares were also down on the day, shedding 2c, or 0.7 per cent, to close at €2.980 in just two trades for a total of 400 shares.
GO plc, meanwhile, also lost ground, suffering a marginal loss of 0c1, or less than 0.1 per cent, to finish the week at €1.380 in six trades for a total of 18,990 shares.
Closing higher were the shares of FIMBank plc, which rose by 1c, or 1.2 per cent, to close at US$0.850 in a single deal of 5,714 shares.
Stock of Malta International Airport plc also added 1c, or 0.6 per cent yesterday, to end the session at €1.710 in just two deals for a total of 4,000 shares.
The equity of the local postal provider, MaltaPost plc, gained a marginal 0c1, or 0.1 per cent, to close at €1.084 on volume of 9,000 shares across a total of four trades.
Also trading on Friday, yet closing unchanged, were the shares of International Hotel Investments plc, which closed at €0.800 in a single, relatively large deal of 31,250 shares.
Late in the day on Thursday, the local software company, 6pm Holdings plc, released its interim directors’ statement for the interim period ending 19 May 2011. The company stated that the company’s recent rights issue created “inherent delays in operating results” and also stated that, consequently, the said results are not expected to be in line with the company’s expectations by mid-year.
