With the aim of encouraging children to explore the magical world of books, HSBC Malta Foundation has donated an educational book collection to the St Theresa College Lija-Balzan-Iklin Primary.
Presenting the donation, which is part of the HSBC Malta Foundation’s Corporate Sustainability programme, HSBC Northern Area Director Speranza Catania said the Foundation considers these contributions as vital tools for the students’ educational formation. “In today’s IT-oriented society, books still have a relevant place in our lives and not just from an academic point of view,” she said.
Marie Louise Farrugia, St Theresa College Primary Headmistress, emphasised the importance of reading, especially in the early stages of education. To this end, the college has recently opened a dedicated book room called ‘Jungle Wonderland – a haven for literacy and creativity’. “The HSBC Malta Foundation’s timely donation is most welcome as it provides a major boost and complements the school’s budding book collection,” said Ms Farrugia.
Dr Frank Fabri, Principal of St Theresa College, said the HSBC donation was a clear example of how the corporate world can invest and help develop the potential of primary students. He added that St Theresa College Primary strives to deliver the necessary knowledge, competences and skills required to produce capable students and responsible citizens for the future.
