SkyParks Business Centre is calling artists to take part in a competition, with the chance to showcase their work at one of the leading corporate addresses on the island. With the support and collaboration of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, the soon-to-be inaugurated Business Centre is organising a nationwide competition inviting both established and emerging artists to submit their vision for a sculpture or art project which will be unveiled at the same time as the official inauguration of SkyParks.
“Setting up a sculpture in front of the Business Centre will enhance the over-all aesthetic value of the site,” said General Manager Alan Borg from SkyParks Business Centre. “The project aims to give both established and emerging artists an exciting and challenging opportunity to create an innovative, contemporary public art project which will act as a future landmark for the airport and the Maltese Islands,” he continued.
The competition will involve a two stage competitive process. Stage one will require interested artists or artist teams to submit details of the project, a proposal of intentions, visualisations, technical information and a detailed budget. Stage two will involve a short listing process with a select number of artists invited to develop their ideas in the form of a scale model. An interview process will conclude the final part of the selection. The artist/s whose work is deemed most impressive will then be selected. Criteria for selection will include amongst others, artistic quality and contemporary relevance, technical feasibility and sustainability, conservation requirements and health and safety issues.
The art project will be situated in the outdoor terrace on level 1, a few metres to the left of the entrance, hence highly visible from the ringroad, the airport terminal and car park of Malta International Airport.
SkyParks Business Centre is the latest investment within the expansion plans pursued by Malta International Airport plc under the operations of Sky Parks Development Ltd. Launching the construction of the Centre, this purpose-built office park boasts a modern 9-level building with excellent building design and efficiencies situated in a uniquely accessible location - the airport. The Business Centre offers a total of 14,000m² of rentable area including office accommodation, food and beverage outlets as well as a wellness and childcare centre with complimenting underground car parking facilities. This project is scheduled to be completed towards the end of 2011.
Submissions of all the required documents and visualisations in hard copy, accompanied by a digital copy on CD or DVD will be accepted at SkyParks Development Ltd., SkyParks Business Centre, Malta International Airport, Luqa 4000 until 1200hrs of Monday 22 August by midday.
