A six-month jail term suspended for two years was given to former drydocks worker Gilbert Agius, 35, after he was found guilty of stealing a number of welding cable coils from dock number one at the Malta Shipyards.
The case goes back to 19 May, 2008. Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona considered the testimony of Joe Falzon, who worked with the security section of the Malta Drydocks. He had noticed that Mr Agius had cable marks on his boiler suit while he was walking out of the Shipyards.
Furthermore, the court considered that his work involved the use of welding cables and the arguments brought up by the witnesses were never denied by Mr Agius even though he opted not to testify throughout the court case.
Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.
