MSE Index Closes flat

Trading activity during the final session of the week on the Malta Stock Exchange ended with a negligible decline as the Index shed 0.01 per cent to close at the 3,323.537 level. This happened when the gains registered in three equities almost balanced out losses registered in another three equities. In the equity market activity was spread across seven equities as investors negotiated an aggregate of 32,100 shares spread across 26 deals.

In the banking sector, the day’s sole gainer was Bank of Valletta, as its share price rose by 5c or 1.9 per cent to close the session at the €2.700 level. Trading activity in the Bank’s shares resulted when 7,466 shares were dealt, spread over 8 deals.

Meanwhile, HSBC Bank Malta reversed the gains it registered during Thursday’s session as the equity dropped by 3c or 1 per cent to close at €2.920. Activity in the Bank was relatively muted as investors transacted an aggregate of 3,000 shares across two deals.

However, the day’s biggest loser was Malta International Airport, which ended the session with a drop of 10c, equating to a decline of 5.9 per cent to close at €1.600. The company was also the day’s most liquid and actively traded equity as investors exchanged 9,200 shares across nine deals.

On the contrary GO headed the list of gainers during the day, as its share price rose by 4c or 3 per cent to end at the €1.380 level. Activity in the quadruple play telecommunications company was muted as two investors exchanged 1,000 shares.

Likewise, Simonds Farsons Cisk ended the day in positive territory as the equity gained 2c or 1.2 per cent to close at €1.700. Investors in the company traded just 500 shares spread across a single transaction.

MaltaPost shares closed marginally lower, as they dropped by 0c1 to close at €0.999. However, Plaza Centres was the session’s only non-mover as the equity closed unchanged at €1.800.

In the fixed interest sector of the market, activity was spread over twelve corporate bonds and four government stocks.
