Zucchero, the best-selling artist of Italy will be serenading the Maltese public yet again in this well anticipated debut performance; the concert part of the tour Chocabeck World Tour 2011. Chocabeck, the name of his new album released in 2010, has sparked various positive reviews in Europe and contains 11 tracks written by the artist himself. Some of them have also benefited from the contribution of Bono, U2’s leading singer.
Born in September, 1955, Zucchero - Anselmo Fornaciari, started his singing career in 1970 adopting the stage name of Zucchero – the name that made him known throughout the world. He sold over 40 million CDs worldwide and won many prizes including two World Music Awards and a Grammy nomination. His greatest hit is Senza una donna, which was for a long time number one in all European charts.
Zucchero’s absurdly successful career has been built around the combination of all-too-Italian histrionics and his passion for African-American music. As many extroverted entertainers before him, as the decades went by there was always the inherent risk of his one day turning into a parody of his own persona. Signs of a newfound maturity were already visible in his last studio offering, 2006’s Fly, but in 2010’s Chocabeck he fully reaches an understated grandeur.
He has shared the stage with great artists such as Sting, Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Elton John, Bono, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Sheryl Crow and many others. Ray Charles said about him that “this guy is so talented … great voice … maybe one of the best blues singers I have ever worked with”.
The concert to be held on 30 July, will be a must watch event, not only because it will be held for the first time in the open air at MFCC but as it will be featuring many of his greatest hits together with a 13-piece live band.
